For everyone here at The Mishir Corporation, the desire to make fun and unique games is in our blood. So how best to begin? With a strong foundation of course, which is exactly how the development of Memento Mactāre began. That's why after some hiccups here and there, we spent the last 12 weeks coming up with, and refining the idea surrounding this game.
Beginning with a strong thematic core, that being a fusion of memory and martial arts, combined with research into Ancient Chinese mythology, and ending up with a central mechanic that we think will be a joy to play, yet there is still more that must be considered and implemented for this game to reach its full potential.
One of the most important things we have been going over is the main mechanic of the game. While the core idea of "memorising buttons in a call-and-response minigame" has been the fundamental concept for a while now, specifics on how long the players are shown each button, and how quickly they have to input them are still being carefully revised.
After finishing the idea, a lot of time has been spent trying to make sure development goes as smoothly as possible, as I am only a single developer with very limited skills, yet I am still tackling what is in my eyes a complicated and expansive project, due to the encouragement of many of my peers.
Some of the things I've been doing is getting an advance start on the website you are currently visiting, as well as the beginnings of other TMC social media accounts, and also another paper prototype, as I still can't code and would rather spend any actual coding skill on the real product. The paper prototype is so basic it can only be used to gather feedback on the core mechanic, but as this is the most important part of my game, that is not really an issue.
We are also excited to show you an early visualisation of the game's mechanic imagery, and some art concepts that show off the visual style we are aiming for in the final game. This is subject to change however, in order to better represent the Ancient Chinese influence present throughout the whole of the game's identity and theming.
As for the future, my main objective is to learn SOMETHING about coding so I can feel some reassurance about actually being able to make this game, and making at least one successful and playable "call-and-response" segment.
We hope to share more art and concepts with you over the coming weeks, and we hope you are just as excited as us for this project.
Thank you for your support and thank you from all of us at The Mishir Corporation!
