Implementation
Implementation
This week began the implementation of a variety of different features in order to round out development of the game and bring it up to a level we would consider playable. While the game itself is mechanically playable, most of these features are things that bring the game up to being a complete experience, including the majority of the dialogue to tell the story, the main menu, or the game over screen. An example of dialogue is to the left.
Here is the main menu screen, where the game now officially begins during playtests. The background image as seen in Week 10 has been implemented behind the game's logo and start and exit buttons. The image itself is referenced from an Ancient Chinese palace.
This is the relatively simple game over screen. Since the game promotes the idea of continuing forward no matter what, we didn't want too much emphasis or focus to be placed on failure with the game, encouraging players to start again and keep moving. The dialogue from Xiang reinforces this, although that is one of the few finishing touches left to implement. The restart button starts you from the first area, the Courtyard, as we wanted a certain level of difficulty and commitment from our players that checkpoints would not allow.
Not long to go now, and our updates may get shorter as we slowly but surely finish everything off for our game, once the final story elements and the sound effects are implemented, the game will officially be considered complete and available to play on our itch! Look forward to that, and our documentary, which should be available from next week if all goes well. Thank you from all of us at The Mishir Corporation!
